The Nissan Kicks is a relatively new member of the diverse subcompact crossover sector.

It runs on either a 1.5L or 1.6L gasoline engine or a 1.2L gas hybrid model coupled with a 96kW electric motor.

In the US market, it was brought in to replace the Nissan Juke, but the Juke continues in other markets around the world.

One place the Kicks has struggled is in its price point.

It faces stiff competition from great-value models that offer the same or more for less money, namely the Kia Seltos, which delivers a lot more power and torque and better maximum gas mileage for only a little extra cost.

Still, the Nissan name means a lot for reliability and quality, which is why the Kicks selling almost 150,000 units in the US to date.

The Kicks got a refresh for 2021, with a new and facelifted version being unveiled in late 2020. Some good news from Nissan after a tumultuous and depressing year for us all.

The redesign features a larger grille, new LED headlights, a new rear bumper, and some fantastic interior additions: a center armrest, larger infotainment screen and an electronic parking brake.

The Kicks is a great car for the city, with agile handling that makes merging even in tricky traffic situations very easy.

You get a good set of interior tech features too like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which makes the car a fun and easy drive.

It remains a slick option for those who want SUV utility but urban-friendly compact size, or something close to it.
