For 10 years the Chrysler PT Cruiser was a common sight on roads in North America and Europe thanks to its retro-styling and crossover SUV classification.

Much like the HHR model from the same American automobile manufacturer the car was greatly inspired by the design of cars from the 1930/1940 period.

Unlike the HHR the PT Cruiser was available as a 2-door soft-top convertible and was available with a wider range of engines under the hood.

Customers were spoilt with the number of trims on offer varying from the basic "Base" through to the "GT" with body-kit and 2.4 litre turbocharged engine.

It was also classed as a compact car rather than a crossover SUV and also had a diesel-powered version that is popular with European car buyers.

Safety ratings were never great for the car although they did improve slightly throughout its life, the car seemed to struggle on side-impact and lacked stability control.

A wooden-floored panel-van version called the "Panel Cruiser" helped push the sale of the car to commercial customers thanks to its multi-use rear end.

Towards the end of the cars life, the main buyers were rental companies who enjoyed its cheap price, this was until the price increased and sales dried ending its 10 years lifespan in 2010.
