Originally coming onto the market in 2008 using a Hyundai Elantra chassis, the Kia Forte grew quickly into a sales success.
It was brought in to replace the Cerato and Spectra lines and to make use of the newfound partnership between themselves and the Hyundai automobile manufacturer.
In some markets it is known as the K3, the Shuma or even the Cerato depending on where you are based. It is not sold in Europe, instead, the company focuses on the Ceed line there.
The demand for the Forte has continued to climb for many years thanks to growing Chinese and Mexican economies and their expanding middle classes.
Safety ratings for the car were fantastic on day 1 due to the use of an already optimized platform taken from their partner, IIHS awarded the first car 5 out of 5 stars.
A wide range of engine choices has kept the Forte relevant in many different markets and to varying demographics ranging from the modest 1.6 litre gasoline through to turbocharged-diesel GT trim.
In 2009 the options sheet included a hybrid engine for the first time that ran on liquid-petroleum-gas with a lithium-polymer battery to capture lost energy during braking.
