Entering the 2-door sports car market with a luxury offering in 1998 was the Audi TT, a car built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Golf and Skoda Octavia.

The Mazda MX-5 had been going from strength to strength in recent years breaking sales records and so the German carmaker decided to put a horse in that race.

Engine choices were fairly limited at first but buyers could opt for four-wheel-drive if desired or even a soft-top convertible layout.

In 2008 the second-generation TT was introduced to showrooms and customers were delighted to see a wider range of engine choices and improved transmission options.

Various special editions were also starting to see the light of day, including the hardcore TT RS which achieved 335 bhp to all four wheels.

Things were simplified though yet again when the third-generation was available to order in 2014, engines on offer were modest in comparison to the past.

The current third-generation model does have some incredible technology as standard including a digital instrument cluster and LED headlights.

Audi has announced that this version of the TT is going to be the last with no replacement currently public.
