The Ford Edge is a five-door crossover produced by Ford since the 2007 model year.

It is slotted between the Escape and the Explorer in the North American, South African, and Middle Eastern markets.

In its first generation, it was also produced in a single generation as a mid-size crossover SUV in Brazil and India.

The Edge competes with the Nissan Murano, Kia Sorento, Subaru Outback and Toyota Venza, as well as the Dodge Durango.

Where the larger Explorer SUV and the related Mazda CX-7 wagon share platform and powertrain technologies, this Edge has an independent platform.

The Edge's styling and features reflected this change: it was heavier than the Escape, had a raised ride height, and an extended wheelbase.

Exterior styling took cues from the larger Mercury Mountaineer, with similar headlights, taillight clusters (and sequential turn signals), and a nearly identical grille.

The interior underwent a partial redesign as well; the second generation Escape-derived dashboard design was replaced by an all-new unit with greater similarity to those of trucks and SUVs sold by Ford around the world.

Automatic transmission is standard with all-wheel drive as an option (although front-wheel-drive is also available).

The Edge offers a range of engines including two V6 engines, a 2.7-litre Duratec producing 175 HP (129 kW) and a 3.5-litre Duratec making 200 HP (149 kW).

It has many modern features such as a six-speaker surround sound system, SYNC, wireless cell phone connectivity, Active Noise Cancellation technology packaged with Sony and JBL Audio systems.
